MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – It is important that we scale up the production of drugs in Belarus, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he hosted a meeting to discuss the most pressing healthcare issues in the country, BelTA has learned.

"What is being done to provide people, including rural residents, with medications in sufficient quantities?" the president addressed the question to the participants of the meeting.
Aleksandr Lukashenko criticized the government for a sorry state of affairs in the medications supply system. He also asked about the measures to expand the domestic production of popular drugs. Recently, according to the president, this issue has not been given due attention. "At a time of Mr Zharko [Vasily Zharko, former Healthcare Minister of Health] they reported that more than 50% of drugs on the Belarusian market were domestically made. We've stopped at that and are not moving forward,” the Belarusian leader outlined the problem.
