Lukashenko urges to focus on post-coronavirus rehabilitation of lonely elderly people

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Special attention should be paid to the rehabilitation of the elderly people who recovered from the infection, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the government conference on 12 May, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the need to pay special attention to the care of lonely elderly people as they recover and rehabilitate after the coronavirus infection. The Labor and Social Security Ministry, together with the Healthcare Ministry, has been tasked with developing a system to help this category of citizens, in particular, compiling a list of health resorts where the elderly weakened after the illness could restore their health under the supervision of doctors.

“Today, the president has instructed the Labor and Social Security Ministry, together with the Healthcare Ministry, to build a system of rehabilitation of certain categories of citizens. This applies to a particularly vulnerable category of citizens – senior citizens and people with disabilities. Special emphasis and attention will undoubtedly be paid to single and lonely elderly people who do not have loved ones nearby to take care of them,” Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich told reporters.

She noted that the Labor and Social Security Ministry has good health resorts for the elderly and disabled. They have well-developed barrier-free infrastructure to provide rehabilitation services to these categories of citizens.

“Together with the Healthcare Ministry, we are assessing the need for places to undergo recovery among the elderly,” the minister noted.
