Lukashenko, UAE vice president discuss promising projects

MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – During his visit to the United Arab Emirates Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Vice President, Prime Minister and Defense Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on 5 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian president.

The parties welcomed a high level of political dialogue between the two countries, as well as regular contacts and robust cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology and humanitarian field. They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen Belarus-UAE cooperation across all areas.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus is interested not only in trade, but also in joint projects and knowledge exchange. The parties discussed promising projects in transport, logistics and financial sector. One of them provides for the establishment of an international financial center in Minsk with the assistance of the UAE. At present, the development of the project concept is nearing completion.

Investment cooperation also holds a lot of promise, including cooperation in the agricultural sector. Belarus and the UAE are considering a possibility to set up joint ventures to produce and sell agricultural products and foodstuffs. The UAE is also interested in Belarus' expertise and knowledge in the information and communication technology.

In addition to that, top on the agenda was the UAE's preparation for Expo 2020 Dubai. Belarus is going to take part in this major international forum and wants the national pavilion to stand out and yield good results.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum continued their conversation during an official lunch. After that, the Belarusian head of state thanked the Emirati side for the warm welcome and presented the painting Horses by Belarusian artist Andrei Sitko. Another traditional gift was a basket of Belarusian meat and dairy products and sweets.
