Lukashenko to visit Minsk City Clinical Oncologic Dispensary

MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will visit the renovated Minsk City Clinical Oncologic Dispensary on 29 December, BelTA has learned.

The head of state will be informed about the quality of cancer care in Belarus, the current state and development prospects of cancer care in Minsk. The president will familiarize himself with the organization of life support systems in the radiation medicine department, cutting-edge methods of diagnostics and treatment of cancer, conditions of stay in the dispensary.

The Minsk City Clinical Oncologic Dispensary is a specialized institution in the system of the Healthcare Committee of the Minsk City Hall. It was founded in 1934 and is the oldest cancer care facility in the country.

The dispensary has 608 beds in an inpatient ward and sees 500 outpatient visits daily. Clinical departments of the dispensary annually handle more than 34,000 inpatient stays and 10,000 complicated surgeries involving advanced technologies. Thanks to the launch of new linear accelerators having no analogues in the CIS in 2015, the radiation medicine department applies ultra-modern treatment methods.

A decision to renovate the dispensary and build a new radiation medicine facility was made in 2011. The infrastructure of the healthcare institution has been seriously modernized since then. A new radiation medicine facility will have 20 beds in an inpatient ward. It will use radioactive iodine therapy for the diagnostics and treatment of thyroid cancer.

The number of cancer cases registered by the Minsk cancer care service has increased by 30% in the past five years. Thanks to the close attention of the state to this issue, the application of cutting-edge methods of cancer diagnostics and treatment, it has been possible to prevent the increase in the number of deaths from cancer in these circumstances.
