MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is expected to take part in a ceremony to honor Belarusian national symbols in Minsk. The event will take place on the State Flag Square on 8 May, BelTA has learned.
Every year, Belarus celebrates Day of National Emblem and Flag on the second Sunday of May. This year it precedes Victory Day which is marked on 9 May.
Today the State Flag Square is featuring an exhibition telling the story of the square, the heraldry of the Belarusian cities and the country's national symbols.
On display are also museum items, including the editions of the Constitution, the spacesuit of cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and the national flag that he unfurled in space, and another national flag that has been brought to Everest.
One of the exhibits is the largest national flag, measuring 45x90 meters.
There are also coats of arms and flags of regions and the city of Minsk, women's regional folk costumes, arts and crafts.
The Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War has also displayed on the square its mobile exhibition “The Road of Memory”.
