MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Those, who wave about nuclear weapons, do not think about security of even their own nations. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as a meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Security Conference opened in Minsk on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
“For now we see politicians making statements about medium-range and small-range missiles, about strategic offensive armaments, and so on. We also hear all kinds of chatter in mass media. We can handle the chatter for now. We take a look at it sometimes. But we certainly grow concerned,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
“If, for instance, politicians in Poland declare they are ready to shell out billions of U.S. dollars in order to place American weapons and station battalions of American troops there, we certainly respond to this bearing in mind recent history,” continued the Belarus president. Alexander Lukashenko remarked that “we do it openly, we don't try to conceal it.”
“Certainly, together with our key ally we think about ways to counteract all of it and at minimal costs. We are not that rich. Neither Belarus nor Russia. We need an adequate answer for it,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
Alexander Lukashenko stressed: “As they launch mass media campaigns and start waving about nuclear warheads, they don't even think about their own security, about the security of their own nations. You surely don't expect them to start caring about us? Do you think Trump cared for Belarus as he was making the statement about the USA ditching the INF Treaty?” Alexander Lukashenko remarked he had been in favor of Donald Trump winning the presidential election and is now following the situation attentively.
Alexander Lukashenko said he believes that all this chatter resembles some game. “If they scrap the treaty, the move will not produce anything,” he noted. But talks about such things are harmful, stated the Belarus president.
