Lukashenko: Tensions between global powers are detrimental to world

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Strained relations between the USA, China, partially India and Russia create an uncomfortable reality for the entire world, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during his Annual State of the Nation Address on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

“This new reality is uncomfortable, to put it mildly, for the entire global community, and this is due to a strained political dialogue of the superpowers – the USA, China, partially India and Russia,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The mechanisms of global checks and balances are falling apart, while the decision of the United States to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty might have unpredictable consequences,” the president noted.

“We cannot but be concerned by the military buildup of NATO and the USA in the neighboring states. Against this backdrop, Belarus needs to build up its Armed Forces and take action to maintain security,” the head of state said.

While working to improve its defense capacity, Belarus builds cooperation within the framework of the CSTO to the extent possible, takes part in maneuvers, improves the efficiency of the regional group of forces. Together with its main ally, the country is gearing up for the Belarus-Russia Union Shield 2019 exercise.
