Lukashenko talks about reasons behind problems with Belarusian food export to Russia

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – While addressing delegates of the 8th Congress of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) on 28 February Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made a number of comments about reasons behind problems with Belarusian food export to Russia, BelTA has learned.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarusian foods enjoy worldwide recognition and popularity due to their high quality. In turn, the high quality owes a lot to the decision to maintain state standards in the food industry in the past.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that quality has nothing to do with the problems encountered in the course of Belarusian food export to Russia. “There may be too much pepper in the sausages,” he joked. “But indeed we know why we sometimes face these problems.”

The head of state believes that competition is the root of the problem. In fact, Belarus exports food not only to Russia but also to the European Union and China and receives no complaints from them. Contrariwise, the demand for Belarusian food rises.
