Lukashenko speaks about national security threats

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarus has never been in such an alarming situation as now, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he delivered his annual Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly on 31 March, BelTA has learned.

“Although we are a relatively small state, it has turned out that we can play an important role,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Otherwise, they would not have portrayed Belarus as an enemy in the eyes of the European community. They would not have injected billions in this propaganda,” the head of state remarked.

According to the president, our country is up against a huge and top-notch media infrastructure that creates and churns out fake news and stereotypes discrediting Belarusians in the opinion of ordinary Europeans. In other words, a pretext for a conflict is being created.

“Over the course of its independence period, Belarus has never been in such an alarming situation when its security is facing such an unprecedented level of threats. We have found ourselves in their crosshairs,” the head of state said.

“Self-exiled opposition members are receiving military training abroad; NATO plans to use them to get into our country and arrange a military havoc,” he continued.

“They have mounted a campaign inside the country to siphon money for swindlers, they are dragging our youth into illegal activity and extremism. All this is orchestrated by special services of the neighboring states,” he said. Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that Belarus can respond to this by stepping up efforts to expand relations with the closest allies.
