Lukashenko plans to go to Russia's Rzhev to attend war monument inauguration ceremony

SOLIGORSK, 26 June (BelTA) – I intend to attend a ceremony to unveil the Monument to the Soviet Soldier in the Russian city of Rzhev, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with the staff of the Belaruskali company, BelTA has learned.

“It will be held next Tuesday. We are discussing the details of the trip. We are looking for an opportunity to pay a visit and discuss [with the Russian president] some matters of our cooperation in the future,” the head of state noted.

The president also shared his impressions about the Victory Day parade in Moscow. “I was not the only one representing Belarus at the parade. There were also the Belarusian guards of honor. I like our guards of honor and support them: the soldiers are fantastic, crème de la cream of the Belarusian military! They are hardworking guys. When they marched by, I stood up (other members of the delegation did too) and cheered for them. These are my most memorable impressions,” the head of state said.

According to him, Russia organized the parade quite well in the wake of the pandemic. “Considering the current circumstances, they did a very good job,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.

BelTA reported earlier that the dedication ceremony is scheduled for 30 June. Aleksandr Lukashenko was invited to attend the event by Russia President Vladimir Putin.
