Lukashenko: Patriotism of internationalist soldiers helps maintain peace, stability in Belarus

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent an address to internationalist soldiers, veterans of the war in Afghanistan as Belarus marks the Internationalist Soldiers Remembrance Day, BelTA has learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“For internationalist soldiers who survived the heat of the war in Afghanistan 15 February is the day of remembrance, courage and indestructible brotherhood-in-arms,” the address reads.

The head of state emphasized that Belarus celebrates living heroes and remembers the names of all its sons who did not come back from that war. The country honors their memory and shares the grief of the families and friends of the victims.

“You fulfilled your military duty with dignity like our fathers and grandfathers – heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Today you are veterans too, and you are the pillars of the state and an example of service to the Homeland for the youth. Your solid patriotic position helps maintain peace and stability in the country. And you know the value of peace and stability better than anybody else,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.
