MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is holding a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the Palace of Independence, BelTA informs.

This visit is the first official visit of the Hungarian leader to Belarus. The talks are preceded by an official welcome ceremony.

BelTA reported earlier that Aleksandr Lukashenko and Viktor Orban are expected to discuss trade and economic cooperation, and the implementation of joint projects. Belarus and Hungary have made great progress in bilateral relations, however, the potential in expanding cooperation in various areas is still hugely untapped.

The parties are also set to discuss cooperation between Belarus and the EU, including within the Eastern Partnership format. The talks will also touch upon the situation in the region and worldwide, and approaches to addressing the most urgent issues.

The press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus expressed confidence that Viktor Orban's visit will be a landmark event in the development of Belarus-Hungary relations.
