Lukashenko on working visit to Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, 17 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in the Russian Federation on a working visit. The air force one has landed in the aiport of St. Petersburg, BelTA has learned.

In St. Petersburg Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russia President Vladimir Putin will attend the plenary meeting of the 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in St. Petersburg on 18 July. The heads of state are also planning to hold bilateral talks to discuss the development of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Russia and the interaction in the Union State. On 17 July, the presidents are scheduled to have an informal meeting. Vladimir Putin and Aleksandr Lukashenko are expected to visit the Valaam Stauropegic Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior.

The main program of the forum opened on 17 July. The panel discussions will address the issues of the common educational, cultural and informational space, humanitarian projects, cooperation of regions and other issues. The session of experts will highlight the strategic development of the Union State. The plenary session to be attended by the presidents of Belarus and Russia on 18 July will focus on interregional relations as the basis for the development of the common cultural and humanitarian space.

The meeting of national business councils will bring together business representatives from both countries.

Cooperation agreements between regions of the two countries, commercial contracts, other documents on cooperation will be signed during the forum which will last till 18 July.
