Lukashenko on talks with Russia: No one will sign documents that may harm us

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – No one will sign any documents that may be disadvantageous to us, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he commented on the relations between Belarus and Russia during his address to the new and outgoing parliament on 5 December, BelTA has learned.

The president said that, according to the intelligence service, in the near future the “fifth column” wants to hold protests in Belarus against the country's alleged loss of independence. “You see, they are more worried about the independence than you or me. They are worried that we will sign some documents which go against the interests of Belarus. No one will ever sign any documents that may harm us. Today Belarus and Russia are not even discussing politics, diplomacy and so on,” the Belarusian leader said.

“If someone is worried that there will be one parliament tomorrow, there's no talking about it at all. If someone is worried that tomorrow the president will be someone else, not Lukashenko (I mean for now, without any elections), do not worry about it, too. We are not engaged in a dialogue on political matters. More than a year go we agreed with President Putin in Sochi. I told him then: it will take us really long if we start discussing these issues,” the head of state said.

He stressed that even from a pragmatic point of view it would not be the right time to discuss and address such issues. “We first needed to elect the parliament, and then decide on the presidential election. Who would choose to solve such unpopular issues at the moment?” said the Belarusian leader.
