Lukashenko offers condolences to Iraq president over stampede victims

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has offered condolences to Iraq President Barham Salih over numerous victims of a mass stampede in Karbala, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

According to the head of state, it is with great pain and sorrow that Belarus has learned the news about the tragedy.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

It was reported that over 30 people were killed and about 100 people were injured in a stampede, which began when part of a walkway collapsed, at a shrine near the city of Karbala, where tens of thousands of pilgrims were observing the holy day of Ashura.
