Lukashenko offers condolences to family and friends of Gdansk mayor

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has offered condolences to Poland President Andrzej Duda as the country observed a day of national mourning after a tragic death of Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

According to the head of state, it is with deep pain and sorrow that Belarus has learned the news about the heinous murder of the Gdansk mayor

“On this day of mourning, on behalf of the Belarusian people and myself I express sincere condolences to you, the family and friends of one of the most respected municipal leaders in Poland, I also offer condolences to the entire Polish nation,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

As it was reported, 53-year-old Pawel Adamowicz died in hospital on 14 January one day after he was stabbed by a man who rushed on stage during an open-air charity. The assailant is a 27-year-old resident of Gdansk who was recently released from prison where he spent five years for bank robberies.

The Book of Condolences for Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz was available for signing on 21 January from 10.00 to 15.00 at the Embassy of Poland in Minsk.
