MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – We need to gradually convert the Minsk public transport to electric transport, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he attended the ceremony to launch the station of the third line of the Minsk metro, BelTA has learned.
"Minsk should gradually switch from vehicles powered by internal combustion engines to electric transport. This will be good to people's health,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko urged to pay special attention to trams. "We need to upgrade tram tracks to reduce noise levels. We produce good trams and these are good vehicles," he noted.
In this regard, the president mentioned the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Its first power unit has already been neglected to the country's unified power grid. "Electricity will be abundant. Our protesters are complaining that we have nowhere to use it. How come? We need to build another plant to get away from hydrocarbon dependence. It is a blessing," the head of state said.
