Lukashenko lights candles in Saint Nicholas Monastery in Mogilev

MOGILEV, 8 June (BelTA)– Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko lit candles in Saint Nicholas Monastery in Mogilev on 6 June, BelTA informs.

In the church, the president was gifted the icon of the Mother of God of Mogilev and Bratsk. He was told that it protects from diseases.

The head of state was told about the monastery and its development. In particular, a renovated altar screen was shown to him. “This is a true masterpiece. It is for the first time that I see such an altar screen. It can be compared to altar screens in Saint Petersburg churches,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The meeting took place in very warm atmosphere. Aleksandr Lukashenko shared his memories about the time when he studied in Mogilev, spoke about the beautification of the city and future plans in this regard.

The head of state also spoke about the epidemiological situation. He remarked that the situation has been improving in Belarus. The current situation in Mogilev is fine. “Mogilev people are lucky, the majority of cases are in mild condition,” he added.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that Belarus' approach without universal quarantine was right. At same time, he urged people to be careful, to take necessary precautions, and to spend more time outdoors. “We must hold out in this period and defeat four-five pandemics – in healthcare, politics, in the economy, the information pandemic.
