Lukashenko lays wreath at Monument to People's Heroes in Beijing

BEIJING, 1March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, BelTA has learned.

The national anthems of Belarus and China were played, after which a wreath in the colors of the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus was laid at the foot of the monument to the solemn melody "Flowers for Heroes".

The monument in Tiananmen Square was built in the middle of the 20th century in memory of the heroes who gave their lives in the revolutionary struggle of the Chinese people in the 19th – 20th centuries. The height of the obelisk is 37.9 meters, which is comparable to a ten-story house. On the pedestal there are eight bas-reliefs made of white marble with images of the revolutionary struggle of the Chinese people in the period from 1840 to the founding of the PRC in 1949. On the front of the monument there is an inscription in Mao Zedong's handwriting, which reads: "Eternal glory to the people's heroes!"
