Lukashenko hosts meeting to discuss university admission campaign

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko explained the main reason for a meeting convened on 6 June to discuss the current university admission campaign, BelTA has learned.

The head of state warned that he was not going to listen to the reports and deal with the problems related to this year's centralized exams.

“I am more interested in how we are going to live in the future. We have resolved this issue [of calculating the centralized exam points]. People now understand how we calculate the score. We have made the system more understandable,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “This is, however, not the main issue (it is important, and we will talk about it later). The main question is how we will enroll our young people into universities in the future.”

“The most important thing for a person is health and education. No one can exist without health and education. This is the basis of my worries about health and education,” the head of state said.

As for the healthcare system, things seem to have been sorted out there, the president said. “Specific tasks and deadlines have been set - the healthcare system should have been put in order by 1 January [2024],” the head of state added. However, the head of state stressed that there was still no significant progress at this stage. “I do not see that they have been working to their full capacity,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “First of all, I want to ask you, Igor Viktorovich [Petrishenko, Deputy Prime Minister] and the prime minister to keep an eye on the matter.”

There is a constant control over the execution of the president's orders, but “no one seems to be working to the full swing today”, the president said. “I urge you to start fulfilling my orders on healthcare. Get ready with your reports on education as well. Admission to universities is the number one issue for the education system,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
