Lukashenko hails European-level healthcare in Belarus

GOMEL, 21 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko hailed the European-level healthcare in Belarus in general and Gomel Oblast in particular as he met with top officials and executives of Gomel Oblast on 21 July, BelTA has learned.

“In Gomel we have developed a strong healthcare system, no worse than in the capital city. If a person has health issues, he or she does not have to travel to Minsk to seek treatment. Gomel has almost everything necessary: healthcare professionals, medical equipment and up-to-date medical centers,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that many healthcare facilities have been built in Gomel Oblast and the regional healthcare sector is doing well. “We looked recently at the healthcare indicators in Gomel Oblast and compared them with European ones. They are no worse than in Europe. This is the result of the tremendous work that we have done in healthcare in recent years,” the president noted.

He added that the country on the whole and Gomel Oblast in particular have developed a unique expertise in tackling the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. “Even an advanced country like Japan is working with us on this issue, for which we are grateful,” the head of state said.
