Lukashenko grills Western mass media for lack of alternative points of view

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – Mass media, which are controlled by the West and the USA, do not tolerate an alternative point of view. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in an interview with Associated Press, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that a hybrid war is in progress now. Mass media and misinformation are used in this war. “The ongoing war is a hybrid one. It started with mass media and continues. Today mass media represent a very strong weapon. They accompany military actions,” he said.

“But how can one understand why you've totally prevented different points of view in the Internet and other conventional mass media?” the president wondered. “Hear out the other side, hear out Russia's point of view. Why do you block Russian reporters everywhere? Why do you shut them up?”

“You don't tolerate a different point of view on your platforms, which are controlled by the West and the USA (it is a huge resource, much larger than what we and Russians have). God forbid if we strike a nerve somehow and this point of view largely does not coincide with yours, you immediately block accounts, websites, and so on,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out.

The one-sided presentation of information in Western media is also present in the coverage of events in Ukraine, the Belarusian leader is convinced. In particular, it applies to the coverage of events in the Ukrainian city of Bucha. “We know very well what happened in Bucha. Trust me I know what happened there better than you do. I invited you to listen to what I know, to my own version. It is based on concrete facts. If you don't trust it, may lord be with you. I cannot force you to believe after all,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Why are you afraid of a different point of view? Let one be present in your mass media,” the president added. At the same time he remarked that the arrival of an Associated Press team for the interview with the Belarusian head of state did them credit.
