Lukashenko: Future of Belarusian and Russian peoples is being decided

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – The future of Belarusian and Russian peoples is being decided now, Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko told reporters after the talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Minsk on 19 December, BelTA has learned.

Emphasis was placed on strategic matters, primarily in economy. Traditionally, a lot of attention was paid to the foreign policy agenda. "The outgoing year has really become a record one in the number and intensity of contacts at all levels for the entire thirty-year post-Soviet history. It was due to objective reasons: the situation in the world is changing rapidly. In terms of depth and scale, these changes are truly fateful, without any exaggeration," the head of state said.

"In fact, the future of the Belarusian and Russian peoples is being determined now. This is the reality, and there is not an ounce of pathos here. Today we can unequivocally state: together we were able not only to survive, but also to find opportunities for the development of our economies, which was unexpected for everyone, and above all, for those who created difficulties for us," the Belarusian leader stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed gratitude to Vladimir Putin for the warm, deep, energetic and constructive conversation that involved the members of the governments of Belarus and Russia. "Thank you for a very fruitful meeting," he said.
