Lukashenko emphasizes importance of local road maintenance

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – Beside the development of major highways it is highly important to maintain local roads in good condition, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the working meeting with Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko and Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak on 16 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state asked to report to him on the state of affairs in road construction. He noted that all the relevant tasks, from local roads to the construction of new highways, have been outlined in due time.

“What roads are we currently building? What are the future plans? What is the state of affairs with local roads? Minsk has already been connected to all regional centers. Today we need to maintain the local road network in good condition. At least, people should be provided with an opportunity to reach agro-towns by car,” the president stressed.

After the report to the head of state, Aleksei Avramenko said that at least 1,000 km of local roads in Belarus will be repaired this year. The plans are to complete the reconstruction of the Minsk-Smolevichi, Slutsk-Soligorsk, and Brest-border with Poland roads by the end of the year.

“A number of investment projects have been agreed with the head of state. First of all, it is the road R46 project. We have agreed upon approaches to work with our Chinese partners. Before, we worked with an Asian bank. We will continue our work with the bank of the Eurasian Economic Union on the M3 highway,” the minister said.
