Lukashenko emphasizes academic focus in master's degree training

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – There should be an academic focus in master's degree training, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with listeners, students, postgraduate students, professors and lecturers of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Belarus on 18 October, BelTA informs.

A master's degree student of the Academy of Public Administration working in a customs agency asked the first question about the rejuvenation of senior personnel. However, the president pointed out a different thing. He asked what master's degree training means to her. In her words, master's degree training is finished higher education in comparison with bachelor's programs.

Aleksandr Lukashenko answered that, in his opinion, master's degree training has a different purpose. According to the head of state, when corresponding proposals were discussed a decision was made that a person with a bachelor's degree is a specialist with higher education. “What are we going to do with master's degree training? If someone wants to be involved in science and to explore the field further, be more than just a university specialist, postgraduate education will be an option for them. We have agreed that master's degree training is for those who will work in science,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Therefore, I wanted you to tell me that you will work in science with your master's degree, that you will continue your postgraduate education, defend a thesis (working in customs bodies simultaneously, maybe). I wanted you tell me that you will use your experience and knowledge to advance customs service to a brand-new level,” Aleksandr Lukashenko answered the question.

“A similar instruction [regarding master's degree training] was given to everybody,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to the president, while having less experience young specialists are ambitious people with fresh and modern ideas. Therefore, teachers should do their best to catch up with their students and not to fall behind. “You are future oriented-people. You want to transform the world, create something, do something special,” he said.
