Lukashenko displeased with unreasonably long modernization of large enterprises

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Modernization of some enterprises in Belarus has been unreasonably long, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during his Annual State of the Nation Address on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that in recent years the country has upgraded more than 500 industrial enterprises. New production facilities have been set up in wood and metal working industries, construction and textile industries, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, which, according to the president, operate quite effectively today.

“However, the implementation of individual projects has taken unreasonably long time. First of all, it applies to Svetlogorsk pulp and paper mill, Dobrush factory Geroy Truda, newsprint plant in Shklov, and oil refineries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Given the circumstances, it is necessary to pay special attention to the early end of the modernization of two oil refineries so that we should not go with hat in hand but purchase oil in the international market, like everybody else, get it processed in our country and earn some profit. The projects are at the finishing stage but need some accelerating.”

The government has been instructed to complete major investment projects within the next two years and ensure their efficiency.

“Industry promotion is the right development path for Belarus. The objective is to create comfortable living conditions in every corner of the country. It is important to remove everything that restrains economic growth today. This is the overriding task for the government and the National Bank,” the head of state said.
