MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – On behalf of the Belarusian people and himself, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulated Alain Berset on his election as President of the Swiss Confederation for the year 2023, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
“You have been entrusted with an important mission to lead your country in a very difficult and controversial time. I hope you will cope with it with grace and dignity. Unfortunately, today most European politicians misguided by false images of enemies in the East do not have the courage to make decisions and bear responsibility for them. Western elites have defended the ideas of liberalism for so long and admired their easy victory that they seem to have completely lost touch with reality. However, the world is becoming more and more aware of the need to engage in a real constructive dialogue, not confrontation,” the message reads.
“Belarus remains committed to promoting bilateral relations and pragmatic cooperation with neutral Switzerland on the principles of mutual respect, without artificial restrictions and threats. I hope that your previous experience as the head of the confederation will help significantly improve the channels of communication between Minsk and Bern on a number of directions during your next term in office,” the head of state noted.
