MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – A number of problems have been encountered in the course of setting up a common Belarusian-Russian market of natural gas. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a conference held on 16 December to discuss Belarus-Russia cooperation, BelTA has learned.
The president pointed out that the pricing of energy resources is coming to the forefront in the realization of Union State programs because the competitive ability of the Belarusian economy depends on it.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Let me remind you that the Union State program on forming the common market of natural gas provides for concrete steps and deadlines, which regretfully have not been implemented, I think. They were simply disrupted. Who is responsible for it and how are we going to fix the situation?”

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that equal terms for Belarusian and Russian commercial entities are even more important than prices for energy resources. “I think we have one wish (not even a complaint but a wish) for the Russian side: enable equal conditions for the operation of commercial entities. So that agricultural enterprises, our industrial enterprises, companies in the sphere of services and so on could work in equal conditions,” the president continued. “It is important for prices for natural gas, oil to not be sky-high in these equal conditions. But it is absolutely not the most important thing. One can say it is even not important. The important thing is for Russians and Belarusians to have equal prices for energy resources and other areas of our activities. It is the key.”
