Lukashenko comments on Macron's statement regarding situation in Belarus

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko responded to French President Emmanuel Macron's statement regarding the situation in Belarus.

BelTA journalists asked Belarus President's spokesperson Natalya Eismont about the head of state's reaction to the recent statement of French President Emmanuel Macron in his recent interview to Le Journal du Dimanche. He said that the authorities in Belarus cannot accept ‘the logic of democracy'. He was also impressed by ‘the bravery of the protesters' and made a conclusion that ‘Aleksandr Lukashenko has to step down'.

The Belarusian president's press service provided a comment: “The head of state got familiar with the statement of his French counterpart and answered the following:

First. As President of the country, based on the principles of Mr. Macron (laid down in his appeal to resign), I would like to say that the President of France himself, following his own logic, should have resigned two years ago - when the ‘yellow vests' just started to come out into the streets of Paris. Years go by, ‘vests' are still in the streets, Mr. Macron is still in his position, too, and France has turned into a country where mass protests have become a usual thing.”

Apart from ‘yellow vests' it is also worth mentioning occasionally emerging issues related to the BLM movement and Muslim protests in Marseille and Lyon.

Summing up all this, Minsk, with a gesture of good will, is ready to offer itself as a universal and effective negotiating platform for a peaceful transfer of power to any of the above-mentioned groups.

Second. As an experienced politician – to immature - I would like to advise Mr. Macron to stop looking around and focus on the internal affairs of France. At least to start solving the problems which are many in the country.

And finally, as a person, I would like to note that, as it seems to us here in Belarus, Emmanuel Macron pays too much attention to one of the former presidential candidates. Taking into account the fact that this ex-candidate is a lady, the French leader risks facing problems inside his family.
