Lukashenko: Belarus will build, upgrade 18 bridges within three years

SLAVGOROD DISTRICT, 13 July (BelTA) – Eighteen bridges will be built and upgraded in Belarus within the next three years, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he inaugurated a bridge across the Sozh River in Slavgorod District, Mogilev Oblast, on 13 July, BelTA has learned.

“We have made arrangements that within the next three years we will build and upgrade 18 bridges like this one and more sophisticated bridges. We have agreed about it with Europeans. This is about transit, including their transit. They are to invest $130 million in it. We asked our ministers and government members to keep in mind that this money should stay here. You should definitely win the tender to build these bridges. We should compete with those who will come here to build them. We have won such tenders before,” the head of state said addressing the bridge builders.

The head of state underlined that construction projects in Belarus are run in line with the fair play rule – no one gave kickbacks to anyone and no one overrated costs. “Everything was fair, as it should be. We won. We built the road to Grodno – that was a big project – and we did it on our own,” the president noted.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged to use concrete more actively in road construction, after all, Belarus has enough resources and expertise for that.

“We have big plans beyond these 18 bridges. We should bring into shape 30-40 small bridges. Therefore, there will be a lot of work for bridge builders. Time is running out. We should handle it within the next five-year period,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
