Lukashenko: Belarus spares no expense to save COVID patients

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) –The government spares no resources to save lives and health of people, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he talked to the staff of the Minsk Leather Production Association in Gatovo, Minsk District on 23 March, BelTA has learned.

“Keep in mind that we have spent a billion dollars on the COVID treatment. Should I spare this money when a person is in intensive care?.. I have visited intensive care departments 12 times, I have seen these people. We spare no expense to help them,” the Belarusian leader said.

He also spoke about vaccination. “One Russian vaccine costs $19. Count how many we need. I agreed with them that we will produce this vaccine on our own using their technology. It is a good vaccine. We will start manufacturing it in just a week,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president stressed that there is no frenzy about it in Belarus, like in a number of other countries. “Moreover, we reached an agreement with the Chinese. They sent us a batch (a whole plane) of Chinese vaccines. They say this vaccine is very good. They will send more, free of charge. It has been agreed that we will buy the vaccine from them, though it is more expensive,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“We are having hard times now, but we will handle it,” the head of state added.
