MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Darya Domracheva and Nadezhda Skardino should return to competitive sport given the poor performance of Belarusian biathletes in the current season, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the sport festival Minsk Ski Race 2019 on 9 February, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about the production of good skis in Belarus, the head of state remarked that the state will eagerly purchase the equipment of the world's best brands for elite athletes. “We will buy even 1,000 pairs and choose the best skis. The main thing for them is to ski faster. We will also give rifles and other things to them… The main thing for them is to perform well, not to be a disgrace for the country. This is a shame. There has never been such a shame,” the president said.
“So I asked Dasha and Nadya [Domracheva and Skardino] to unretire,” Alexander Lukashenko added with a bit of humor.
