Lukashenko appoints new members to National Bank Board

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko appointed new members to the Board of the National Bank on 20 July, BelTA has learned.

The head of the main department for banking regulation, board member Ilona Lednitskaya has been appointed deputy chairperson of the board.

Elena Mashnina, head of the main banking supervision department, has been reappointed as the board member. The head of the the main department of operations in the financial markets Denis Goreglyad and the head of the main department of monetary policy and economic analysis Dmitry Murin have become new members of the board.

The president noted that today's appointments were a reason for a brief yet meaningful conversation with the National Bank top executives about the situation in the banking sector and in the economy as a whole.

Chairman of the Board Pavel Kallaur briefly introduced the candidates to the head of state describing them as competent and proactive professionals.

The task is to improve banking supervision, primarily in terms of countering the legalization of proceeds of crime, Ilona Lednitskaya told reporters after the meeting. Among other tasks are improving banking operations, especially their access and digitalization both for individual clients and also economic entities.

"The accounting and transition of the banking system to the international financial reporting standards are to be improved, which will also allow for more open and transparent reporting and, in turn, better banking supervision,” Ilona Lednitskaya said.
