Lukashenko against foreign control, in favor of self-determination

SOLIGORSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian nation should make decisions at its own discretion and should not allow control from abroad. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he talked to Belaruskali workers on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I didn't come to ask you to support someone, including the incumbent president. It is up to you. Do as you wish. But remember the key thing: we shouldn't be subject to foreign control, we should live by our own decisions. If you are in favor of that, then we are going to defend our country and our children. If you are against it, you should look for another president.”

The head of state also stated that the authorities will do everything to prevent maidan-style riots in the country. He is convinced that there can be no revolutions in Belarus. “We've exhausted the supply of revolutions. Moreover, there are no revolutionaries in the country. But there are plenty of people, who are crazy about maidans. But we don't need maidans. We know what results maidans produce – the destruction of a country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Some outside parties are interested in bending and weakening us, in destabilizing the situation and then forcing us to do their bidding.”

The president is convinced it is no longer possible to divide the Belarusian nation: “Over the course of 25 years we have already learned what a country of our own, our own piece of land taste like. We are smart and understand that this piece of land does not really belong to us but our children. We are united in the belief that our children should inherit this piece of land.”
