Independent mass media in Belarus urged not to cross acceptable boundaries

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The mass media that position themselves as independent should not to cross the acceptable boundaries, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with community leaders, experts, Belarusian and foreign media on 1 March, BelTA has learned.

“I would like the media that position themselves as independent and the experts, who evaluate events and shape a certain perception of the reality do not cross the acceptable boundaries. Upon crossing these boundaries they can create an unequal balance in society. They need to understand the responsibility for every word because peace and stability in the country are much more important than professional ambitions,” the head of state emphasized.

“Most readers and viewers today are educated people, able to analyze information. They have long learned to see journalists' manipulations and read into whose interests lie behind news headlines,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
