Former chief of Lukashenko's press service appointed consul general to Guangzhou

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has approved the appointment of Andrei Popov Belarus' Consul General to Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, BelTA has learned.

At present Andrei Popov works as a senior advisor to the Department for Asia, Australia and Oceania of the Directorate-General for Asia, Africa and Latin America of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Andrei Popov led the press service of the Belarusian president in 2014-2016. Before that, he had worked in various roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: in 2006-2010 he was Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; in 2010-2014 he was deputy permanent representative of Belarus to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
