Draft protocol on amending Belarus-Russia nuclear power plant loan agreement approved

MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has signed decree No.263 “On the draft of an international agreement” to approve a draft protocol on amending the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on granting a state export loan for building a nuclear power plant to the Belarusian government. The decree has been published on the national legal information website law.by, BelTA has learned.

The draft protocol will be used as the basis for negotiations. The Belarusian government has been authorized to conduct negotiations and sign the protocol.

Aleksandr Lukashenko signed another decree to approve a draft protocol on amending the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the construction of the nuclear power plant as the basis for negotiations. The Belarusian government has been authorized to conduct negotiations and sign the document. In line with the decree the protocol will apply provisionally as of the date it is signed until it comes into force.

BelTA reported earlier that in June 2020 the Russian government approved the draft protocol on amending the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on providing a state export loan to Belarus for the sake of building a nuclear power plant. The draft protocol provides for extending the period of use of the loan by two years – till the end of 2022. Apart from that, the interest rate is fixed at 3.3% per annum. The date when Belarus is supposed to start paying off the principal sum is shifted from 1 April 2021 to 1 April 2023.
