Decree on ensuring BelNPP construction safety revised

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 70 to introduce amendments to Decree No. 62 of 16 February 2015 “On ensuring the safety of the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant”, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The revised decree will regulate safety issues concerning the construction and operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP).

In accordance with the decree, authorized state bodies will monitor radioactive pollution without obtaining a license, the Emergencies Ministry will be authorized to amend special license regulations concerning the use of nuclear energy.

Besides, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) will be authorized to hold public consultations to discuss decisions concerning the safety of nuclear energy use. This norm has been introduced following an IAEA recommendation.
