Concern over young Belarusians seeking education abroad

GRODNO, 19 October (BelTA) – The intention of young Belarusians to get university education abroad is a reason for concern and requires attention on the part of the state. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he talked to students of Grodno universities on 19 October, BelTA has learned.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said he was concerned about the intention of young citizens to get university education abroad.

Alexander Lukashenko went on speaking to explain reasons behind his concern. Young Belarusians seeking foreign education is not the reason for concern. But it is when talented young people leave Belarus after getting education here. Or when young Belarusians get education abroad and stay there, too. “I am not here to tell you where you can go or not. If you have already made up your mind, then you are likely to leave the country or will work abroad after getting education here. It is your business. But I would like you not to rush things. Analyze where you will be better off first,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that immigrants cannot reach the top tier of a foreign society. “You will always be second-rate citizens over there,” he stressed. “Two thousand people, who are studying abroad, with half of them possibly wanting to stay there, is not a problem for Belarus. Yet as the head of state I would like young Belarusians to get education and work here.”
