Belarusian Union of Afghanistan War Veterans marks 25th anniversary

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has sent greetings to the Belarusian Union of Afghanistan War Veterans which marks the 25th anniversary, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“Over a number of years Soviet soldiers showed an example of genuine loyalty and service to the Homeland in Afghanistan. Having gone through severe ordeals, former comrades in arms gathered together to preserve the memory of the courage and heroism of our men, provide mutual help and support,” the message of greetings reads.

The president remarked that for a quarter of a century the Belarusian Union of Afghanistan War Veterans makes us remember the pain of severe losses, and reminds us about the fragility and value of peace.

“Your unity, strength and confidence are a good example for others. As authoritative and respectable people, you are making a big contribution to the preservation of unity and accord in the society, education of the younger generation. You are by right considered the successors of the military glory of Great Patriotic War veterans,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
