Belarusian People's Congress named opportunity to review the past, strategize for the future

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian People's Congress gives an opportunity to review the past and outline the strategy of the future, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

The head of state emphasized that the today's congress is not a formal ceremonial event and not a tradition, but a time-tested and direct link between the government and people. “It gives an opportunity to calmly and thoughtfully sum up the results of the past and outline the strategy of the future,” the President added.

Alexander Lukashenko said that this people's congress is in the spotlight. “Points of view and opinions are different. Many people want answers to key questions. What results did we have at the end of the previous five-year period? Where did we succeed, and where did we fail? What are the reasons for current difficulties? What did we do right, and what did we do wrong? And the main thing – what will happen with us in the future? What will be the course of the state? How will we work and live? What do we have in store for the entire country and every citizen?” the head of state asked.

“We must give clear-cut answers to these questions. It has always been a special role and a special mission of Belarusian people's congresses,” the President said addressing the participants of the forum.

“Some people wondered why the congress is held right now, and not in the run-up to the presidential election,” Alexander Lukashenko continued. “The answer is simple. It is logical to hold the Belarusian People's Congress when it is possible and necessary to sum up the real results of work in the five-year period, evaluate achievements and failures, and realize global trends in the economy.” If these conditions are fulfilled, there will be accurate, well-considered, and effective solutions, Alexander Lukashenko is convinced.
