Belarusian government instructed to draft documents on pension increase

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko ordered the government to prepare draft resolutions to increase pensions in 2019 as he delivered his Annual State of the Nation Address on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

“We increased pensions three times in 2018. We will see their growth in 2019. I am instructing the government to prepare, without delay, necessary draft documents,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president stressed that the average ratio of the guaranteed level of social old-age pension and average wage should be at the level of 50% but not lower than 40%, as is commonplace throughout the world. “We need to remember that well-being of older people depend on the salaries of those working today. For most of them a pension is the only source of income,” the head of state noted.

The president also outlined the possibility for active retirees to continue their career. “Sometimes our pensioners retire in good health, being active. We must give them a chance to work. They are experienced, talented, capable people, law-abiding,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
