Belarusian FTUB commended for good results in setting up primary trade union organizations

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko praised the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus for impressive progress in setting up primary trade union organizations as he addressed the 8th FTUB Congress in Minsk on 28 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that more than 4,200 trade union organizations have been established since the previous congress in 2015, 75% of them at private enterprises.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the work to upgrade the structure of trade unions is also worth notice. “Trade unions are no longer isolated organizations, but a single movement that makes employers and government authorities pay heed to it. It is important that you do not just observe the processes that are taking place in the country, but are actively involved in them. This is why your activities are so effective,” the president said.

The Belarusian leader mentioned FTUB's active support for major political campaigns as a perfect example of successful cooperation between trade unions and government agencies. “It reveals both your civil position and purely pragmatic approach. Your interest in presidential and parliamentary election campaigns and their outcome is obvious. Because it matters to you with whom you will have to cooperate in lawmaking and solving difficult issues facing regions and the whole country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko believes.

He also lauded FTUB's efficiency and active participation in the implementation of decisions of the 5th All-Belarusian People's Congress and the main provisions of the program of Belarus' social and economic development for the five-year period that was adopted at the congress.
