Belarusian car maker BelGee promised big government contracts

BORISOV DISTRICT, 17 November (BelTA) – Import cars used by Belarusian government agencies will be gradually replaced with Belarus-made Geely cars. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he addressed BelGee employees on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “I've already forbidden the entire power vertical to buy import cars. We've already bought dozens of [Geely] cars. We will gradually replace the rest now, starting with the central government and ending with municipal government agencies. We are already doing it.”

The president noted that BelGee employees should drive the cars they make. It will be a good indicator of the quality of BelGee cars. “Apart from me your management and representatives of the People's Republic of China will think about ways to encourage the company employees to drive the cars you make. When you make these cars and drive them around, it will be the best commercial there is,” stressed the head of state.

After the solemn opening ceremony representatives of the Chinese companies presented Alexander Lukashenko with a car, which is not produced in Belarus yet. Alexander Lukashenko assured them he would definitely test the car. Moreover, he has something to compare it with: the head of state has driven a Tesla electric car previously.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that the production of reliable electric cars in Belarus would be the best gift for him.
