Belarus views cooperation with Moldova as promising

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Cooperation between Belarus and Moldova is promising, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview to Belarusian and foreign political observers in Minsk on 13 November, BelTA has learned.

When asked by a representative of a Moldovan TV channel about the development of bilateral relations after the presidential election in Moldova, Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence in the victory of Igor Dodon. “Not because he's my friend. Because the people of Moldova are very pragmatic people. You know, they, unlike the Belarusians, had certain experience, and they have already been through troubles... They are not out of the woods yet but they already know the value of all the promises. I think if Dodon wins this election, it will be a breakthrough for Moldova,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also noted: "Don't break the country. You're on the right track. You can not give up, as you said, on this eastern vector, geopolitical choice, because economy is the backbone. But you are sandwiched between the West and pro-Western Ukraine. What do you do? You need to build up relations with Romanians, the European Union and the United States."

Aleksandr Lukashenko touched on the further development of Belarusian-Moldovan relations: "You need not severe relations with us. We have lived together in one state for a long time, we speak the same language, thank God, and we can do a lot together. The main thing is not to turn the country upside down."
