Belarus to encourage renewable energy

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No.357 “On renewable energy sources”, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

The document is designed to promote balanced development of all types of power generation taking into account the upcoming launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The decree provides for the use of only new equipment while building, repairing and upgrading energy facilities and for the purchase of electricity generated by these facilities at a rate that will ensure return of investment. If enterprises fail to construct such facilities before the deadline, electricity generated by them will be purchased at lower rates.
