Belarus, Tajikistan advance to strategic partnership

MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – The relations of Belarus and Tajikistan reach the level of strategic partnership, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during broader negotiations which involved top officials from both sides on 28 June, BelTA informs.

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that during the one-on-one talks with the president of Tajikistan the sides reaffirmed the similarity of approaches to the evaluation of the regional and global situation. He said that Minsk and Dushanbe traditionally support each other on the international arena, and will continue doing so in the future.

“After the talks we will sign a landmark document – an agreement on strategic partnership. It is a logical result of building friendly, truly constructive relations. Its fulfillment will give a boost to our efforts in all areas,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian president said that there are no closed topics for cooperation between countries, there is absolute understanding between him and his Tajik counterpart. “We fulfill all our agreements on time. It is confirmed by the initiative to lay out gardens of friendship with Tajikistan in Belarus,” he said. The first garden is in Brest Oblast, the second will be located in Gomel Oblast.

These gardens will be a symbol of stronger ties between the two countries. The project will also help grow new agricultural produce in Belarus. “Due to the drastically changing climate we have to look for new varieties which are produced in the south, including in Tajikistan. We can grow southern crops in our weather conditions. I think that Tajikistan will provide serious support and assistance to us,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
