Belarus, Spain encouraged to boost trade to $500m

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Spanish trade can reach $500 million within the next two or three years, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he appointed new ambassadors to Spain and Poland on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

The president said that more can be done to develop cooperation with Spain. According to the president, Pavel Pustovoi, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Spain and Belarus' Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization, will need “to lay solid foundation of relations”. “This is an interesting country and I think we can have trade at $500 million in some two to three years,” the head of state said.

Belarus-Spain trade has already reached almost $316 million and has been consistently growing over the past two to three years. Belarus and Spain can cooperate in a wide range of areas, including industry.
