MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in developing contacts with France, especially in economy, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he appointed Igor Fisenko new ambassador to France, BelTA has learned.
I would not say that our cooperation with France is at the highest level. But still Pavel Latushko [former Belarusian ambassador to France] did a good job there. Cooperation in certain areas in economy has picked up. Economy is the priority for us, the president said.
He asked whether the new ambassador will be able to further the cooperation between the two countries. In response, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei described Igor Fisenko as a diplomat who worked abroad, very professional and thorough. As an example the minister cited the successful results of his work in the post of the head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “I am convinced that he will be able to further promote the positive things started by Pavel Latushko,” the minister said.
Speaking about trade and economic cooperation with France, Vladimir Makei noted that Pavel Latushko helped establish contacts with a number of companies that promote Belarusian machinery to the markets of African countries with which France has good contacts. Other forms of economic cooperation have been gaining momentum. So is interregional cooperation, ties with the diaspora.
