Belarus ready to discuss all peacekeeping proposals to settle conflict in Ukraine

President 26.09.2019 | 15:11

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to consider any requests to help settle the conflict in Ukraine, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with representatives of Ukrainian mass media on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian head of state stressed that it is not important whether Belarus is called a peacemaker or a mediator for its role in resolving the conflict. “What is important is that you and everyone involved in the conflict should want this. Let me be frank: it is important that we, you, and Russia should want this, if we speak about the Slavic unity,” he said.

Speaking about proposals and requests that Belarus is willing to consider, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that this depends on the parties involved in the conflict. “You can come to us, but never forget of the stronger player here. Will it want it? If you reach an agreement with Russia but have no trust in that agreement (when there is no trust, they look for a new player, a mediator) and you think that Belarus can play a role, then you are welcome – we are ready to consider any requests,” the Belarusian head of state said.
